Diagnostic Testing Hepatitis C and other
The gap between minority and white health issues does not appear to be decreasing. There is still an unusual disparity of health issues in the minority community that does not appear to occur in the White community. Why is this gap not narrowing? Is it genetics? Is it environment? Or can the disparity be linked to diagnostic testing? One group The African American Council on Liver Awareness and thier CEO Johanna Koskinen believe that preventive testing may
be the answer to closing the gap on HepatitisC the
silent killer in the minority community.
Recently speaking with Johanna I learned this hepatitis C attacks the liver. I also learned that this virus is very patient. Meaning that a initial attack from the virus to the liver may not show noticeable effects for maybe 20 years or longer. I learned that this virus has a blood to blood form of human transmission. The scariest thing that I learned that there are certain groups beyond race that are more affected by hepatitis C mainly veterans. Johanna announces that the best thing that can be done is have a test that can identify weather the virus is in your system. Since I am a veteran this was very important to me. I think this is a very important solution for not just hepatitis c, but I also think that testing could be paramount is bridging the gap in most if not all of the ailments that plague our community like strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes and fibroids. This is a discussion that has to be brought up. What do you think?
